We just returned home after a fun little family getaway to Big Bear. It’s such a charming town, and the snow covered mountains are absolutely gorgeous right now! They have so many great activities for families that we are already planning our next trip.

Where we stayed:
It was our second time renting a cabin through Destination Big Bear and they have a huge variety of places to choose from. You can select the neighborhood and amenities you want when searching. They even have pet friendly accomodations. We chose Bear Butte Lodge for this trip, it was super cozy, had a hot tub and a pool table which the kids were stoked about. It’s located in the Moonridge Neighborhood close to Bear Mountain Ski Resort. It’s a great location and only a few minutes to the “Village” and other activities.
What we ate:
We stopped for breakfast in the village and really enjoyed Teddy Bear Restaurant for breakfast (its a busy place so put your name in and go for a walk, also FYI it’s cash only). There are ton of fun shops to check out in the village as well as other great restaurants and treats to be found. We also brought groceries and cooked meals in the cabin. Vons and Stater Brothers are close by if needed.
What we did:
After spending some time in our cabin we headed to Big Bear Snowplay for Glow Tubing. This was a really great time, we arrived just as they were opening at 5 p.m. We were the first ones tubing and got to ride several times before anyone else got there. They have a “magic carpet” that carries you up the hill and you fly down the massive hill in one of several lanes. You get to ride as many times as you want during their hours of 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. They also have daytime sessions and other activities but we only tried the glow tube experience this trip. Dress in your snow clothes and warm gloves because it gets cold! They also have bathrooms and a snack bar inside.
We also took the whole family snowboarding. Big Bear has two Ski Resorts on the Mountain. Big Bear Mountain (which has more “park” terrain and Snow Summit Resort (which is said to be better for families). There is also a smaller Mountain about 20 minutes away called Snow Valley, which is good for beginners and lower in price.
If you have not visited Big Bear yet you definitely should. It will continue to be a winter wonderland for at least another month considering the record snowfall they have received this season. Hopefully your family will love it too.
