Have you ever received a bouquet of flowers only to have them looking sad and droopy the next day? Well after experiencing this recently, I went through tons of sources and found a few tips to keep them looking fresh a bit longer.
- Trim them as soon as you get them, the experts say you should cut off at least two inches, and also pull off leaves or foliage that is going to be under the water. After trimming put them straight into water.
- The Water should be cool and clean. If you put them into water that is too warm then they will wilt faster.
- Add Flower Food you can use the packet that comes with your flowers or make your own. (Most of the recommendations are to use sugar, and bleach. You can google this, I haven’t tried it) I use half the packet provided with the flowers now because…
- You should change the water every couple of days or when it starts to look murky. Once bacteria is in the water it starts to kill the flowers. You can add the other half of the packet in when you put fresh water in. Some people even recommend a splash of vodka to kill bacteria, seriously its a thing. Just try to keep it clean.
- Trim them again, this is something I had not tried before, but when you change the water re-trim the stems.
- Keep them out of the sun, I think this may be my fatal flower flaw, as I typically place mine on the kitchen table or the console table by the front door and both locations are in direct sun.
I received new bouquet yesterday and will see how long I can make it last using these tips. I placed them on my nightstand where there isn’t sun to kill them and have followed the other tips too.
