During 2020 lockdown or quarantine making your own bread was going viral. You couldn’t go on social media without seeing instagram posts of beautiful sourdough, silly TikTok dances, and Dalgona Coffees. While most people seemingly hopped on the sourdough trend, over at our house we were making this easy focaccia (and homemade flour tortillas) on repeat. You probably have the ingredients in your pantry already and you can put your own spin on it by using your favorite toppings or herbs.
Some of our favorite combos:
Sea salt and Garlic
Rosemary and Sea Salt
Jalapeno Cheddar
Simple Focaccia Recipe
Ingredients:
3 cups bread flour (if all purpose is all you have that will work too)
1 teaspoon instant yeast
2 teaspoons of sea salt
3 tablespoons of high quality olive oil (we like California Olive Ranch)
1.5 cups of warm water
Instructions:
In a large bowl mix flour, yeast and salt until combined. Fill a measuring cup with 1.5 cups warm water and add the olive oil into it(about 3 tablespoons is good but you can just eye it). Pour the water and oil mixture into the bowl and either mix by hand with a wooden spoon or mix in a mixer with a dough hook. I personally like the texture of the hand mixed bread best, but both are delicious. Once it’s mixed together cover it with a damp dish towel and let it sit in the cold oven to rise. I usually make this in the morning and it’s ready to bake for dinner. Once you’re ready to bake pull it out and place it into an oiled pan. I used a big cast iron skillet but you can use a baking sheet or baking dish as well. Plop the dough into your oiled pan and spread it towards the edges using wet fingers. Then use your fingers to push down into the dough to make little holes all over in it. Drizzle with olive oil, add sea salt and toppings and bake at 420 for 20- 25 minutes. Let it cool a bit and enjoy!
This is a great addition to soup for dinner, we like to eat it with Classic Chicken Noodle, Potato Leek, and Broccoli Cheddar. It’s also just great as a starter or to gift a loaf and look like you really know what you’re doing in the kitchen!
